Multiboot

Hopefully a simple one for somebody. I've been having problems recently (
Thank You Very Much LinkSys ) as a result I needed to reinstall both Vista &
XP. My problem now is I have 2 copies of both. How do I remove the Set-Up
installation as shown on the Multi-boot screen for Vista? There is a working
version, and a set-up listed.

Likewise for XP

Hi :)

If you are sure you know which ones are the new and the old, let's try this
first:

From Vista, download and install VistaBoot Pro:
VistaBoot Pro
http://www.pro-networks.org/vistabootpro/intro.php

Then open it and click on the Manage Entries and delete the ones that you
don't want and then move the rest in whatever order you prefer ( I have XP
first, then Vista RC2).

Then go to the Configure tab and set whichever program you want as the
default OS, and set the Boot Timeout to 30 seconds, or however long you want
it to take before it boots into the default OS, giving you time to select
the other program if you want. Then click Apply.

Then click view Settings and make sure these are the ones you want. If so
then click the Backup/Restore tab and save a copy of the boot menu.

Se it this works.

That worked fantastically for the Vista, It even allowed for renaming of the
'Older Windows OS' Thank You very much.

I can't expand that to get into the XP systems I have running can I? Only
option I can see is it shows it is there, When I multiboot...and choose the
older system, it then shows 2 XP systems.

Hi Perplexed :)

You're very welcome. Glad to hear that it worked for you.

older system, it then shows 2 XP systems.

It will show all of the OSs that you have set up on the machine. If up you
have more than one version/copy of XP or Vista on the machine, they should
show up in the list in both Vista and XP. I have had 5 OSs on one machine
at times, 4 Vista and 1 XP, and they all showed up in the list. As far as I
know, there is no way to expand it to show more than the OSs, however, you
can check out the Help files and/or the forum for the VistaBoot Pro here
http://www.pro-networks.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=185

Hope this helps.

If you are asking whether you can choose your legacy systems directly from
the Vista boot menu, no. Vista only transfers control to the ntldr program
which then goes thru the legacy process of reading the boot.ini and loading
the os selected from that menu.
