multi updates

Almost everytime I shut down XP, I get 2 automatic updates. Along with this,
I get complex numbered files and directories at the XP root directory, plus
similar files and directories in the Windows directory.

It's all creating a very clouded, crowded and confusing structure

I once reloaded a fresh clean XP, then added SP2. Then these new updates
started reappearing

Anyone care to explain this ?

Windows Updates uses the drive with the most free space for the location of
it's temp files and some of these don't get removed. Those numbered folders
are examples. They can be deleted. One thing that could be happening is
there is a problem and it's installing the same updates over and over.
Check the update history by going to to Windows Update manually to see what
updates are being installed. It may be giving an error on them, hence it
tries to install every night. If that's the case, post your question with
relevant details to the windows update newsgroup. That's where the WU
experts hang out.
