I have burned some files to 4.2GB DVD over several sessions but only the
files I burned in session 1 are usable/viewable. There was a fix released but
it suggest to download Windows 2000 service Pack 4 but I havve Windows XP
Home Edition and they aren't compatable.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Burned with WHAT? Windows XP does not include support for DVD+-R. It only
comes with UDF support for CD-R. If there is DVD burning software included
in Windows, boy, I'd sure love to hear about it so I don't have to spend
money on some 3rd party software.

I used Nero to burn files to a DVD-R and I can see the files on the disk in
Nero but when you explore them you can only see what was burned in the 1st
session.

There was a fix (329112) from Microsoft something to do with a rounding
error in the UDF reader (Udfs.sys). The solution they have does not apply to
XP although it says the problem will effect XP users!

Microsoft Help & Support says it's due to a rounding error in the UDF reader
(Udfs.sys). The fix does not apply to XP users even though it says the
problem effects XP users!

I doubt any fix related to UDF will correct the behavior that you see. When
recording in DVD format, that isn't UDF format. Ahead says at
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/FAQs_Products_NeroBurningROM_DVD.html#2,
"Nero/Nero Express will only work with VOB, IFO or BUP file formats when
creating a DVD-Video."

Since you mentioned UDF, I doubt you saw
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320174. It's a bit old (April 4, 2002) so
I figured that you already had it as part of Windows Update but I also did
not see it listed in SP-1 (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=324720) or SP-2
(http://support.microsoft.com/?id=811113).

Did you create an audio, video, or data DVD? I'm not at a host right now
that has Nero installed, but I recall that you had to make a choice of what
recording format you used when writing to the CD/DVD media.
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/FAQs_Products_NeroBurningROM_Nero6-xx.html#5,
"If you simply wish to 'store' your JPEGs on your CD or DVD, keeping the
JPEG format, just create a standard Data CD or Data DVD." You need to
create a *data* DVD to see your data files.

OK maybe I didn't explain in the correct terms.
I have added files (mpeg, avi, Video clips) to a DVD+R using the data disc
option in Nero Express and selectewd multi-session. I have later added more
of the same kinds of files but when I try to view/use them I can only see/use
the first session when I explore the disc.

I have tried it on 5/6 disc and the same thing happens every time.

So much for backing up files if I can't use them,

completely normal - xp (win explorer) won't see the other sessions, only
your burner program will (nero), until you finalize the disk. this is how
multisession works...

some versions of nero had a add-in that placed a multi-session tab on the
disk/drive properties page. but as I recall it wasn't very reliable.
