Multi-Level Navigation with Link Bar?

Mike W

I am a newbie working through tutorials, etc. I can find on Frontpage
2003. My goal is to build a fairly simple "brochureware" site using a
set of DWT templates so I can change my look as time goes by if I want
without a ton of effort.

I'm trying to achieve a multi-level navigation structure using the Link
Bars in Front Page. Something like:

HOME | >CHILD | CHILD2
SUB1 | SUB2 | >SUB3 | SUB4

In this example, the person is in the "CHILD" navigation branch from
home looking at CHILD's subnav "SUB3". What I would like is to have
the CHILD item in the first Link Bar highlighted as well as the SUB3
item. I'm currently using 3 DWT files, one for each level of
navigation. Home, Child, and Subtopic.

Home and Child navigations do exactly what I hoped, they highlight the
page you are currently viewing. When I get to the Subtopic pages, they
also work for the second link bar and show which subtopic under Child
you are viewing but do not show Child as selected as well.

Maybe some screenshots would make it more clear:

The Navigation view for the sites

The view when CHILD2 is selected, note that it is highlighted in a
darker orange.

The view when SUBTOPIC1 is selected. SUBTOPIC one is highlighted, but
CHILD2 no longer is. I would like both to be highlighted so that the
user has context to where they are. My navigation will never go deeper
than this HOME-->CHILD-->SUBTOPIC structure (never say never I know...)

Is there a way to make my link bar behave like this on the SUBTOPIC
DWT? I've searched google and groups to find an answer to no avail.
It's possible I'm so green I don't even know what to search for :) Any
pointers to online resources or answers are much appreciated. Thanks!

Not w/ the FP nav bars
You need a DHTML menu

Thanks for the quick response. I am wondering if this DHTML stuff can
be driven by the Navigation tool of Frontpage 2003? I am under the
impression that the method that you do these DHTML menus with shared
borders and then largely it's up to you to make sure all the links
exist, etc. It's not a huge deal, but the auto-updating of the navbars
really appealed to me in FrontPage.
