80G HD bit the dust. i thought to use my slave 160G(old) as a master and
installed xp.
now i bought another 160G(new) and want to use it as the master and tried to
put the 160G(old) back to slave. xp is still on the slave and i tried
uninstall( through both boots ) / deleting / and yelling at it; but nothing
seemed to work.
i can not format the 160G(old) because i don't want to loose the info.

any good ideas?

Apart from the space it's occupying (peanuts on a 160Gb disk) why get rid of
a working OS. Set the boot.ini to boot only from Hard Disk 0 Partition ? and
if that shiny new 160 gives out, you have the benefit of a second OS on which
to fall back. Maybe not strictly within the MS EULA but certainly no worse
than a clone.

If space on the old 160 is a problem, once the new disk is set up and
running, you could simply delete the OS files to create a couple of Gig.

hi

perhaps this will help you

1. Check for HDD's jumper configuration (see your HDD manual)
2. Unplug (Old) primary master;
3. Connect HDD (New) witch you want to be primary master to corresponding
cable; (if new hard disk recognized as Secondary Master or Secondary Master
Slave)
4. Format new disk and set primary partition active (in case if your new
disk is not formatted and if it has no active partition);
5. Connect old disk back to corresponding cable
6. install windows

it's easy but be carefully with hardware

David
