msxml parser install

trying to install windvd ver5. Got error that dx8.1, media
format 7, installer 2.0 and msxml parser v3.0 were needed.
Downloaded and installed first three files. When i click
on the msxml.exe file a box pops up asking where to
extract files. i extracted it to c:\temp. In microsofts kb
it says to click on this extracted file and then click on
run to install it. There is no "run" option. Instead, when
I click on it it opens the associate this file with box.
Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong here and
how to enable this file.

You are supposed to download a msi file, and not an exe.


Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4)

Download msxml3usa.msi (or switch to another country if relevant).

Then run the msi file.
