I installed WMP11 and than I reinstalled SP2 for Win XPP. When I restarted
the computer a message appairs and tells me the msoobe.exe has faild. The
problem is gone if I uninstall WMP11. It's the swedish version.

What to do?

msoobe.exe = Microsoft Out of Box Experience.

This is the Activate Windows dialog.

How to tell if XP is activated

Start | Run | Type or paste the following and then click OK

oobe/msoobe /a

If activated, you'll see this message:

Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit.

You are prompted to activate Windows every time you restart your computer

I ran the commando and my WinXP was activated.

So no I didn't help

I get that msoobe.exe has generated an unknown program exception in ....
I've found more articels about the same problem but no-one has solved it yet.
And it appears when after installing WMP11 and than SP2

If the oobe\msoobe /a command worked and said Windows was activated, then
msoobe.exe should not try to run at startup in the first place or fail to do
so in the second place.

Do you have this registry key?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\
CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\RESET5

If you do, see this...
You are prompted to activate Windows every time you restart your computer
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312295

You should NOT have that key or any of the virus related malicious files.
Reset5.exe, Reset5.dll, Reset5.dat or Reset5.dt*.

I don't have that key. And it's not comming up every time a restarts the
computer it just appears when I am re-installing SP2 after I installed
Windows Media Player 11. Please foreward this problem to them who have done
the installation package fore WMP11

Try installing SP2 first, then install WMP 11 and see what happens.

Sounds like you have a clear cause and effect. Why are you reinstalling
SP2? If you need to remove WMP11, reinstall SP2, then install WMP11

Yes I have a cleas cause and effect. You ask why I reinstall SP2, that's
beacuse it good to do that time to time. I have a licensed copy of Win XP and
I don't accept what's happens. This problem should Microsoft solve. I know
very many people who have this exact problem.

I'm not sure why you feel it's necessary to reinstall SP2 from time to time.
The computer I'm writing this on, in Vista Ultimate RTM, is in a dual boot
with XP Pro. The XP installation is almost 5 years old, and SP2 was
installed when it first came out. I haven't needed to reinstall either XP
or SP2 in that time. Good maintenance coupled with the use of a drive
imaging program to save copies of the system when it's running before
software installs and testing, keeps things running smoothly.

SP2 came out before the newer versions of Media Player. I am not an expert
in media player and it's interactions with SP2 by any means, but I still
don't see why you are doing what do. If you want to report this as a
problem to Microsoft then you should contact their tech support directly, if
you haven't already. This newsgroup is not official MS support. Everyone
who posts in here is a volunteer. Good luck.
