MSOHTMED.EXE - Cannot use "Edit in Microsoft FrontPage" link in IE

I have a user that cannot use the "Edit in Microsoft
FrontPage" link in Internet Explorer, but I know she used
to be able to. She is trying to edit a page on our
intranet to which she does have access. When she clicks
on the icon to open the current page in FrontPage, the
hourglass comes up for about 15 seconds or so and then
returns to a normal pointer. Nothing appears to happen,
but if you look in the Task Manager, a Process named
MSOHTMED.EXE is started. This process will start
multiple times if she clicks the button multiple times.

We have tried several solutions including:
- Opening FrontPage in the background and then clicking
the button.
- Opening FrontPage and performing a Detect & Repair
- Verifying that FrontPage is the default editor in
Tools->Internet Options->Programs
- Following the tips at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;293313

If anyone has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks in advance!

Close FrontPage.
Search for and delete all files found by searching for *.tmp and then *.web
Delete the Internet Explorer Temporary Internet and History files.

Then try.

Why not just open the site directly in FP via the File Menu | Open Web command?

This is easy enough, but when the page she wants to edit
is many levels deep in the intranet and she has it open
already in IE (and needs to edit because an error is
found), the convenience factor kicks in. The button is
provided for convenience so I'm hoping we can get it
working.

Steve,

We just tried your ideas but they did not get us
anywhere. We also cleared all Temporary Files at
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local
Settings\Temp. Does anyone have anything else to try? I
could always uninstall and reinstall FrontPage, but that
would be somewhat of a pain if we don't need to do it.
That and I also like being able to solve a problem like
this so I know what to do in the future. Thanks!

Can you verify the FrontPage version you are using.

Also, you did check the registry entry in the KB article. Correct??

Steve,

We did check the registry setting. An interesting thing
though, when the user shut down GroupWise (our e-mail
client) for the day, about 12 instances of Microsoft
FrontPage 2002 opened with the various pages she had
tried clicking the button on.

We recently upgraded to GroupWise 6.5 and we believe that
is when the problems started ocurring. I may research a
little more in the future, but I expect there is just
some very odd clash between these two that won't be
resolved until a later version of one of them is
installed. Thanks for the help!
