MSNVC "Run-time error '62': Input past end of file"

Gildas

Hi all,

when logging on my account, this window keeps popping up.

I found the EXE file at startup that causes this error and
it is C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSHDLP.EXE.

I did a general search on the internet and on these
newsgroups too but I was unable to find an answer.

Does anybody know what all this is?

Right now it is disabled from startup and I haven't
noticed any malfunctions with the computer. I have no idea
what program(s) use(s) this EXE file.

Please let me know.

Well, you're right that a Google search for mshdlp returns no hits, but
that's not true for msnvc. You seem to have the Smibag worm
(http://tinyurl.com/oybd) (http://tinyurl.com/3hbv2). Removal
instructions are on the first linked page. Then install, update, and
run a recent (not older than 2002) a/v program. Because this appears to
be associated with adware, you should also install, update, and run
Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) and/or Spybot Search & Destroy
(http://www.safer-networking.org/).
