my home pc uses the welcome screen. It allows my wife to
easily log in. I logged into msn messenger once, then
logged off the pc. Now it shows that I have two unread
messages at the welcome screen. What controls that and
how do I get rid of it. It is driving me crazy!

RobertE,

Do you have IM setup to start when Windows XP start?

Here is how to check:

Open IM. Go to Tools and then Options. Next go to the
Preferences tab. Make sure that the "Run this program when
Windows starts" check box it unchecked.

I think this solve your issue.

Naba,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I do not have it set to
start up. I also do not keep my cable modem active until
I am ready to browse the web, then I turn it off when I am
done. I actually do not have any messages unread in my
hotmail. I do not use OE and I access hotmail via a web
page. Maybe if I delte my internet cache. But how do I
keep it from happening in the future?
