Re: msnews.microsoft.com account is Gone

Using Home XP with all MS Updates and Windows Live One Care. For several
years the News Server was always in OE 6.x with no problems:
msnews.microsoft.com
Now, after a restart, OE loads with the 3 email accounts but no
msnews.microsoft.com account.

Added a new Identity, tested that, did not work. Is the Windows Live One
Care removing the msnews.microsoft.com account from OE 6.x ??

Yes - but sometimes all you need to work around a problem is a different
entry/name. It may not solve the original problem, but may be enough to
"trick" Outlook Express into allowing a new entry (instead of a possible bum
entry) in and allow the OP to access said newsgroups again.

1. Do you have a System Restore point that might perhaps pre-date the
installation of One Care (I presume you just recently installed this?) I
can't really believe that this was done by One Care, but there's always bugs
to consider.

2. You don't actually say that you've attempted to recreate the Account,
whether in your normal Identity or the new one. That account isn't set up
for you, you have to do it yourself (I know this sounds like, "Are you sure
it's plugged in?", but I need to cover all the bases and you do say you're a
novice.) See here for instruction on setting up a News account for MSNews.

To make it simple, I created this page for you. I presume, since you are
accessing this NG using OE, that you're using some other machine? Go to the
problem machine and then to this page. It will help automate a bit of the
Account setup process.

I wouldn't expect it to, but stranger things have been known to happen.

There is also web access to the newsgroups. Possibly it set that up for
your and removed the OE newsgroup. Perhaps there was question during
setup. I've not used the One Care, so I'm just speculating.

To set the account up again, see:

Thanks for the help and tips.

<< Try news.microsoft.com >>

This worked. I removed the old one. Restarted. Added this one.
Restarted. Created a new USER name and tested there also. It now works on
all user and after all restarts.

This Thanksgiving, I will leave a music CD of Katrina at the Statue of
Liberty in your honor for a tourist to pick up.

Thanks for the help and tips. I tried it all and it all worked perfect. I
may tell all the PPLE in New Orleans I figured it out myself so they will
think I am a genius

You can eat all the Cajun Gumbo you want in these tents. Here you can meet
some cool hippies from every state in the U.S. and a few foreign countries
cooking and feeding some of the people whose homes were washed away into the
Gulf Of Mexico.

No ball clubs. I meant looking for Yankee people. I have met Southernors
and Cajuns so this will be my 1st time to see a Yankee. As I walk around
New York, what do they look like?

Made me cry, but then my Doc says to expect raw emotions these days.

Thanks. I'm going to spend more time looking at your stuff when I get a
chance (and need to cry some more.)

Cool! If I hadn't already been so tied down, I'd probably be there myself. I
used to make a living feeding kids in the parking lots at Dead concerts. My
current wife is, shall we say, more conservative than the previous one. I'm
gettin' old ;<)
