Don't confuse "MSN Messenger" with the "Windows Messenger
Service". MSN Messenger is designed for graphics-based
Internet messaging (like Yahoo Messenger and AOL Instant
Messenger).
Windows Messenger Service has been around since early
versions of NT, except that it now actually works. You
have somehow exposed yourself to one of the messenger
intrusions via the Internet. See www.symantec.com or
microsoft.com for discussion of this vulnerability. To
stop it, right-click "My Computer" and choose "Manage".
Drill down to Services. Find the service
called "Messenger" and STOP it. Then change the startup
properties to disabled. You will no longer see the
Windows messenger intrustions, but you will still be able
to use MSN Messenger, if you so choose.
