I have been using MSN Messenger 6.0 for quite sometime
and all of sudden I cannot sign in, the smae applies to
or Hotmail or My MSN. I keep getting a message stating
that my name does not exist or my password is incorrect .
I know that this is not the case. I have tried to change
my password by I can't access NET Passport to do so. I
keep getting a message stating that "this page cannot be
displayed" in fact when I seek any help on the NET
Passport site I get this message. I also get a message
that "server cannot be found". There is nothing wrong
with my Internet connection! I have high speed and can
access other websites quickly and without any problems. I
am not behind a firewall! I am using a router which
connects a total of 3 computers to the internet. I can't
understand why this is happening on my Desktop ( which
has the ISP information loaded on to it) and not on the
other 2 PCs. I can open Messenger from other computers as
well which are not hooked up to my router e.g. my office
computer. I have removed and reloaded Messenger 6.0 five
times. NO LUCK! Can anyone help me PLEASE!! Thanks.

Hi Eligio,

I do have EXACTLY the same problem here. Maybe it's an old comfort...you're
definitively not alone with problems like this.

I hope someone can help you (+me and others) ;-))

Try Windows Messenger 5.0 (not MSN Messenger 5.0 - WINDOWS MESSENGER 5.0)

I've got an XP machine here on which Windows Messenger 5.0 connects fine,
even though MSN Messenger 6.0 cannot...

I can not sign in with Windows Messenger neither! It all started when I
updated WINDOWS Messenger from 4.6>>4.7 I also tried it with Windows
Messenger 5.0 Also no luck. Before when I used WM 4.6 and MSN 6 I had no
problems at all.

Greetings,

Here are some suggestions you might want to check/try:

1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the
correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
3. Change your password @ http://memberservicesnet.passport.com/memberservice.srf, then try
signing in again.
4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible
that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you
upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall
if this is the case.
5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try
restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an
installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).
6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the
Delete Cookies button.
7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check
for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
8. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK

Then try again.
