Hope someone can help. I had to re-install XP due to my
hard drive failing. I went through the process to set up
my internet connectivity back to an existing MSN
account. After getting connected, I get a pop up window
saying that "To enhance your service, MSN Explorer is
being updated". It runs for a couple of minutes, then I
get an error saying "Shutdown being initiated by NT
AUTHORITY/SYSTEM. Windows must restart because the
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service has been terminated".

I wasn't able to find anything at the Microsoft knowledge
base, so I'm hoping someone reading this might be able to
help.

Thanks!

David,

Thanks for the reply. I saw the same thing you
referenced, but I didn't think it would apply to me,
since I just installed a brand new hard drive, thus
having to re-install the XP operating system. I would
think that this would wipe out any signs of the virus.
And, since I can't even get connected to the internet
from that machine, I can't get the software patches.
