msn account

Is there any way to use windows mail with an msn account? When I try to set
it up I get messages it won't accept various accounts such as an msn
account. Right now I am using outlook 2003 and msn mail. I have a msn
premium account and have had it for many years and don't want to drop the
email address I have.

I believe that MSN/Hotmail is web based, and won't work with WinMail.

Your Outlook 2003 should work with Vista, if you want to continue using it.
I'm just using the calendar portion of it.

You may want to call Microsoft if you need a solution now.
As a paying MSN Premium subscriber you are entitled to
premium support. This newsgroup is a volunteer effort, there
are no Microsoft employees here.

If I understand you correctly, your MSN Premium account has
POP3/SMTP mail access. Windows Mail does not handle
web mail, so when you use its wizard to set up a new account,
it won't accept @hotmail.com or @msn.com since most of
those are web mail accounts. To fool the wizard, first enter
a dummy email account address, say (e-mail address removed).
Once that is set up, you can go back in (Tools, Accounts,
Properties) and correct the email address as necessary.

Let us know if that works for you.

I tried to set up a new email account as POP3 etc using a dummy email
address and then changing it to @msn.com . It doesn't seem to work since I
have an email sitting out there but I don't get any error messages.
Microsoft has really made a big mistake here in not letting Window users get
all email through Windows Mail.

If you have a premium (paid) MSN account, that should entitle you to
tech support from MSN. Give them a call.
Since I don't have MSN, I have no idea what mail settings it uses.

Your idea of using a dummy email address and then changing it after the
email account is created works.
