msmsgs.com hell

I have unchecked Microsoft Messenger from the start up tab in msconfig yet
everytime my machine starts, this program, Microsoft Messenger loads/runs.
I don't want Microsoft Messenger running all the time but cannot stop it.
Any advice? It isn't listed by that specific name in the Services area of
msconfig either.
 
Have you tried opening Windows Messnger, then clicking Tools, then Options,
the Prefernces Tab and de-selecting "Run Windows Messenger when Windows
Starts"?
 
I find the following works much better in keeping windows messenger from
running...

Into a Start \ Run dialog box the copy and paste the following line

rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
