I have the latest Windows Defender installed on my computer, but when I try
to update my definitions, the update installs, but when I click scan the
program will not Scan my computer files and the program responds with, "No
Service-Not Connected to Service" Failure in MsMpEng.exe". Can someone
explain how to fix this problem?

Just out of interest. What version of Windows are you using? Do you have
Windows Live OneCare ????

Hi CJ,

You can repair Windows Defender.
First exit WD, click the down arrow to the right of the white question mark
in blue circle and then click Exit Windows Defender; using Add or Remove
Programs in Control Panel. Click WD and click Change. Click Next, and then
click Updªte.

Reboot

If you still have the same message, try this:
First exit WD, click the down arrow to the right of the white question mark
in blue circle and then click Exit Windows Defender; using Add or Remove
Programs in Control Panel. Click WD and click Support Information and click
Repair.

Reboot.

Let us know how it works ºut

Engel: Thanks for the help, but the reinstall did not work. What I did was
uninstall Defender and downloaded the latest version to my computer and
inmstalled it first. I then went to the manualy install the current
definition webpage and installed the latest version. By manualy installing
the latest Definition and engine it worked. When I allowed the automatic
install to install the Definition it installed v.1.19.2732.6 and engine
1.1.2001.0. This v. was the problem. The manual install installed v.
1.20.2734.2 and the engine changed to 1,1.2704.0. My Defender v. is
1.1.1593.0. Thanks again for your help.
