I followed instructions in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323209
and discovered that Event log, Windows Management Instrumentation (WPI), and
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) status and startup are all, respectively, started
and automatic. Log on is local system for Event Log and WPI, and Network
Service for RPC.

Any idea why msinfo32 cannot collect information?

Hi Aaron,

See if these commands help, from Start/Run:

regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\wbem\wbemprox.dll
regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\wbem\wbemcore.dll
regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\wbem\wbemsvc.dll
regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\wbem\fastprox.dll

I tried your suggestions, individually and then ran msinfo32, and all in
sequence and then ran msinfo32. In all instances it appears that the
regsvr32 instruction did succeed. I still receive the same error message on
running msinfo32.

Did you disable the DCOM Server Process Launcher service, a new service w/
SP2? It must be running or msinfo will give this error.

Many folks are paranoid about COM/DCOM and reflexivly disable this
service.

I just used the Net Diagnostics tool in msinfo32 and I received a bunch of
WMI errors for all Computer Information and for Modems and Network Adapters
categories. Does this help??
