.msiexec file

Am attempting to install a software from Earthlink. Each
time I attempt to install, I get error
message "E:\Windows\access\Earthlink common.msi returned
1635" (E is a disc drive). Does anyone know what I need
to install to correct this problem? Also, when I
RUN: .msiexec computer indicates files can't be
located. Thanks

Hi Biv,

Try cleaning up the installer.

Start/run services.msc, scroll down to "Windows Installer" and double click
it. Stop the service if it is running, set the startup type line to
disabled. Click apply/ok and reboot.

Delete the contents of the temp folders, there may be a file in there
interfering with the setup routine of the installer. Get both:

C:\Windows\temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp

Now reverse the first set of steps and reenable the Windows Installer (You
can just set the startup type to manual). Reboot.

Turn off all other running programs, especially your antivirus software. Use
ctrl+shift+escape, if necessary, to "end task" on everything.

Now retry installing some software. If it doesn't help, here are some
further articles that may:

Tried your suggestion. Still get following message:
"E:\Windows\access\Earthlink common.msi returned
1635" (E is a disc drive). Any other suggestions?
I'm at wits end trying to correct problem.
The "returning 1635" indicates problem with
Installer...but can't get it towork.

Hi,

Yes, it does indicate a problem with the installer, and sometimes it's a
damaged file in the setup. I would suggest you contact Earthlink at this
point, as the problem is with their software. You may want to review this
article on that error code to see if it helps:

Earthlink has been contacted about 10 times in last
month. Since they don't know how to resolve problem, they
suggest I contact Microsoft. Easy way out! Again,
thanks for help. Biv
