I've just upgraded to windows xp, and now my Norton Internet Security 2004 doesn't work. I've tried reinstalling it, but it tells me 'this MSI must be launched through setup',and then that there's a problem with installation. Symantec tell me I must reinstall MSI - how do I do that?!

I am having exactly the same problem reinstalling norton internet security 2004.

What is MSI anyway, let alone how to reinstall it.......

me too..... obviously its not us. MSI is the Microsoft Installer, it works to install NIS and other programs on your PC.
I have gotten through to Symantec tech support, via phone, and they virtually gave up and told me to load my PC configuration to their Automated Assistant, however they told me they will not contact me. They directed me to Microsoft because they suspect a corruption between the Win installer and NIS 2004.

Please let me know if you find out the fix.
