When I go to open certain web pages I get the
message 'Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience'. The
solution i am told is to go to Tools, Internet Options,
Advanced, and the clear the Enable Smart Tags. When I try
this I have no box to clear the Smart Tags. Does anyone
have any ideas?

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

That isn't a problem. It was present in the betas of IE6 but was removed
for the final release.

You do not need to uncheck the box no matter what anyone told you. IE6
released versions do not have Smart Tags, so they cannot be disabled.
