When starting up I get an error message 'the Logon User Interface msgina.dll failed to load' Please replace or restore the original dll

Can anyone offer advice on how to restore from the original Win 2000 CD

One selecting F8/safe mode it freezes
On booting from the CD and selecting Repair I get an error message saying the Harddrive cannot be found

I would prefer not to reformat the harddrive as I wouyld like to recover recent email etc..

Did you install any third party SCSI or RAID controller driver when you
installed Win2000?

In that case, you will need to do this also when you start the Recovery
Console. There is an option to press F6 and insert a floppy with the
correct driver, see this MS Knowledge Base article:

Hi Richard,

Use the original CD to perform an in-place upgrade.

PS. You will have to install SP4.

Thank You.
