MSDN ISO Images: Bootable???

MSDN

MSDN FAQs say ISO images are bootable.
But, I can't get the Windows 2003 R2 SP2 ISO to boot. (Installing on a box
with no OS).
Does someone have to go through this awful process of third-party ISO
burners and such just to use it?

Yes. An ISO file in and of itself is not bootable - it is an image file that
is used by a burner to create the bootable CD/DVD.
