msconfig

Could someone help me figure out what to keep and what to delete here.

How do you delete something out of it, and why are some slashes back & some
forward. One is empty, & I imagine most are spyware.

Also when I opened up the Run box & clicked the drop down menu it was full
of web addresses, never happed before, it is usually whatever was last
typedà[msconfig, cmd etc.]

Any positive help, [one person here can keep the negative B.S. to himself],
would be very much appreciated.

The top three are the only ones I have checked. Do I need more or less & how
do I delete the rest right out of there completely:

Bruce,

You could run google searches on the executables. That's an excellent
way to find out what these things do and if you want to keep them.

Ok, here's my shot at it:

MMkeybd - Keep that one if you use those extra buttons (volume
control, email, web, etc...) on your keyboard. If you have a notebook with
a wireless NIC, definitely keep that one in the startup, otherwise disable
it.

avgcc32 - that's your virus scanner, I'd say keep that one

msnmsgr - Doesn't matter what you do with that bugger, it'll keep
coming back. If you don't want it starting, open messenger and uncheck the
"start messenger with windows" option. if you have XP Pro, you can use
gpedit.msc to disable it entirely.

ctfmon - every computer I see has it and I've never looked into what
the crap it is.

hpztsb03 - That's probably because you have an HP USB printer, don't
remove that one.

dumprep - nix

zhaoifa - spy/adware, remove

regsvr32 /s mqrtl.dll - same as above

SNDmon - that appears to be a live update tool from Symantec but i've
never seen that particular exe. Looks more like a sound card volume tool.
Better keep it.

wfxanything - winfax. keep it if you fax

adobe gamma loader - minimal impact on system, I disable it but that's
just me.

Your system obviously has some spy/adware. I recommend using Ad-Aware or a
program similar to it. Also, try www.spywareinfo.com and download a tool
called "CWShredder" That program removes the CWS.Trojan variants.

Hope I helped

ctfmon - every computer I see has it and I've never looked into what
the crap it is.
CTFMon is involved with the language/alternative input services in Office
XP. CTFMON.exe will continue to put itself back into MSConfig when you run
the Office XP apps as long as the Text Services and Speech applets in the
Control Panel are enabled. Not required if you don't need these features.
