I deleted a bunch of spyware off of the computer, then
restarted and went into MS Config so I could uncheck the
old startup items for the spyware and IOMEGA Icons, I
also uncheck ALCHEM.EXE which I thought was related. Now
when the computer restarts, I get the XP HOME Logon
Screen. Click on the name it appears to start then says
saving your settings and goes back to LOGON screen. I've
tried last know good config, safe mode etc. Still the
same. HELP FAST this is a business computer.

Have you tried reloading xp right over your existing copy?
In my experience when you do this it doesn't effect any
other programs or data on your system. I've done it with
win 98 not xp. You may want to phone the 800 number you
got with the program to activate it. They may have to
provide another license key if you reload the program.

I called a friend and he said the same thing. But I
can't get past the start screen to access the cdrom. Is
there a way to do that???

First off deleting stuff in MSCONFIG\startup should not have any affect on the boot up. You may find that if you delete some stuff in there things like the mouse or even the keyboard may not work correctly but not what's happening to you. Try putting your XP disk in the drive and boot with it. You will see down the bottom of your screen an option that says "press any key to boot from CD" simply do so. The other option is to tap the F8 key while your machine is booting and see if you can get into the recovery options like "last known good configuration" or "safe mode with networking" and so on. Once there go back into the Msconfig and see what's displayed. At the very worst you may have to do a repair install. Let us know how you make out. }:~)

I didn't delete anything from MSCONFIG\Startup, I just
unchecked startup processes. Safe Mode and Last Known,
didn't work for me. I still have yet to find the recovery
and startup/OS disks yet. Every box in this company has
it's software, except for this goof. Oi Vay

In order to access the cdrom before the computer gets to
far is to enter the bios as the computer is staring. Tap
the F8 key after you turn the system on. Once in the bios
you can change the boot order to the cd first instead of
the floopy or the hard drive. Another way is to use a
start disk if you have one ( you can make one on any
computer with win98 or better). Simply insert the floopy,
power up and the system will load certain tools and ask if
you want to start with cd support - answer yes. Once
everything is loaded, switch to the cd drive letter ( D:/
or E:/ ) type in "setup" and hit enter. The cd should spin
and start loading xp.
