What can I disable in the startup of Windows XP and what
do I have to leave checked? I am trying to make the
computer faster.

It's entirely up to you. Windows needs no programs to start
automatically. You should keep what is valuable to you, and get
rid of everything else.

I am trying to make the
computer faster.

Stopping programs from starting automatically may or may not make
the computer faster. It depends on what the programs are; some
have a substantial effect on your speed, others hardly at all.

.
here is another place you can disable startup programs.
Indexing service would be my first choice, but read what
each does and disable what you dont need.
It might be a good idea to write down what you change
here just in case some things you want quit working.

Mark,

Windows XP does not require applications at startup. You may disable all except your favorite programs, anti-virus and firewall/security related applications from that list.
