Msconfig on my XP Home edition computer starts up automatically every time I
start windows. I've followed the Microsoft Knowledge base article
instructions to ensure all boxes are check on the Startup tab. I've also
reinstalled XP. No luck.
Any ideas on how to stop this from happening?

Thanks

If you're referring to the Selective startup screen:

1. Click Start, Run and type "msconfig /auto". Check the option "Don't
show......." and press OK.
-or-
2. Download a fix from Doug's site:

Ramesh,
Thanks for the good advise. However, in my case neither suggestion worked.
I ran "msconfig /auto" and selected the "Don't show.." pick box then pressed
OK. After restart the msconfig selective start up screen automatically
reappeared.
Doug Knox's script returns an error that say I need to be an adminstrator
(which I am) to run the script or the registry entry does not exist.

Any other suggestions? This is definitely a puzzler.

Thanks

There are two possibilities, either due to Permissions or the key does not
exist.

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
Delete the MSConfig entry there.

Once again, I want to make sure if you're referring to selective startup
screen. A screenshot may help.

Bingo! That solved the problem. Msconfig no longer appears everytime I
restart the machine. I deleted the registry key named MsconfigReminder.

Thanks for solving the puzzler.

You're welcome.
