IBM Thinkpad utility
4. qcwlicon - c:\program
files\thinkpad\connectutilities\qcwlicon.exe
IBM Thinkpad Wireles Networking utility
5. pwrmonit - rundll32 c:\progra~1\thinkpad\utilit~1
\pwrmonit.dll,startpwrmonitor

6.tp98tray - c:\progra~1\thinkpad\utilit~1\tp98tray.exe
IBM Thinkpad related utility - exact purpose and function not known.
7. tp4ex - tp4ex.exe
Adds accessibility options for an IBM TrackPoint
8. tphkmgr - c:\progra~1
\thinkpad\pkgmgr\hotkey\tphkmgr.exe
Activates "ThinkPad Help" when the "Thinkpad key" is pressed on an IBM
ThinkPad laptop
9. npdtray - c:\progra~1\thinkpad\utilit~1\npdtray.exe
Presentation Director lets you create and edit display schemes that

resolution, screen savers, and power management shut-off timers. You
can apply a scheme by pressing the Fn+F7 key combination or by using
the Presentation Director tray icon
10. agrsmmsg - agrsmmsg.exe
IBM AMR modem driver
11. tgcmd - c:\program
files\support.com/bin/tgcmd.exe/server
tgcmd.exe is a process associated with an online support software from
SupportSoft. It is often used for on-line support by large
manufacturers like Sony and Toshiba.
12. sgtray - c:\program files\veritas software\update
manager\sgtray.exe /r
StorageGuard from Veritas. Free utility that integrates with Backup
MyPC (formerly Backup Exec Desktop), Simple Backup and MS Backup.
Provides system tray access and background monitoring - warning you of
files that haven't recently been backed up
13. tfswctrl - c:\windows\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe
Drive letter access to a UDF packet writer for CD-RW - from HP,
Veritas an others. Similar to Roxio's DirectCD and does the same
thing.

files\real\update_ob\realschedule.exe -osboot
Purpose and function not known. Probably associated with RealPlayer
or similar software.

atboottime
System Tray access to Apple's "Quick Time" viewer from version 5

Appears to be a driver file associated with a wireless mouse.
18. dragdiag - c:\program files\thomson\speedtouch
usb\dragdiag.exe
For an external Alcatel ADSL high-speed modem. A diagnostic tool and
can be run from the Start menu when required. The only reason it might
be useful on startup is if you like seeing an 'at-a-glance' status
indicator on the taskbar (the icon is a different colour depending on
the status of the device/line)
19. ccapp - c:\program files\common files\symantec shared
\ccapp.exe
Part of Norton AntiVirus 2003. Auto-protect and E-mail check will not
function without this
20. cfgwic - c:\program files\common files\symantec
shared\cfgwiz.exe /guid nav /cmdline "reboot"
Introduced with Norton Anti-Virus 2002, this is a real resource hog.
Many NAV users will find they can live without loading it
21. advchk - c:\progra~1\norton~1\advtools\advchk.exe
Advanced Tools Check. Checks when you install a new version of a
Norton product that you have uninstalled all previous versions. Serves
as a reminder if you forget
22. rk - c:\windows\system32\rk.exe - boot
**** RelevantKnowledge, NetSetter/Marketscore foistware variant ****
23. sndmon - c:\progra~1\symnet~1\sndmon.exe
Part of Symantec's LiveUpate (eg, Norton). Not required if you run
manual upadtes but probably require if you leave them to run
automatically.
24. winpatrol - c:\progra~1\billps~1\winpat~1
\winpatrol.exe
WinPatrol - "Manage Startup programs, tasks, cookies; will sniff out
Worms, Trojan horses, Cookies, Adware, Spyware, Klez, Assumption and
other malicious programs"
25. msmsgs - c:\program
files\messenger\msmsgs.exe /background
Windows Messenger.
26. freescan - c:\freescan\freescan.exe -fastscan
*** Spyware BeGone - free spyware removal utility. Not recommended
aggressive advertising (1); false positives work as goad to purchase;
free scanner uses out of date ref database; ***
I am wondering if any of you know if any of the above
programs are virus and should not be run at startup.

Thank you.

You probably need to get rid of your Freescan and other purported
spyware blockers/removers and replace them with trustworthy products.
