Hi,

have 2GB RAM.
Everything nice, except ONE software I have bought to easily edit some pdf
data on pdf's I create ( PDF_Analyzer)
which gives an "out of memory" errro each time I try to save a file.

Have googled, and found the /maxmem switch : if I set it to a value less or
equal to 1536 the PDF-Analyzer works OK. Higher not.

Now problem is each time I boot the MS config utility displays a warning
that I have chosen to do selective boot etc.
If I load MS config utility and check "normal boot" and reboot it keeps
reappearing. Of course I want to leave the maxmem entry as well.

Is it impossible to have the /maxmem entry and NOT have this silly pop-up
about MS Config ???? Or do I have to either throw away my
two 512MB RAM rows and replace by either 0 or two 256MB ones or never use
teh PDF-Analyzer ? In these cases this would cost money
I do not want to spend now.

By teh way I really do ot understand how it is possible that 2GB RAM are a
problem to XP PRO with the MoBos we now have ! That's really a pity!

Hope someone can help me force MSConfig to accept /maxmem and not shouting
at each boot procedure.

TIA

Phil

"MS config utility displays a warning that I have chosen to do selective boot"

Have you thought about checking that little box that says
"Do not show this message again?" the next time Msconfig pops up???

Ohhhhhhhh yes : more than once ! But it still shows up again and again !
That's why I don't know how to get rid of it ! Even if I do not change
anything more, check the "normal boot" and on that "do not show again or boot
...." box, it keeps poping up.

You could check the box for "do not show" but implementing this setting via
MSCONFIG is not really the way to go.

Instead, edit the boot.ini file to add the value.

Sure, and have done the edits via notepad for teh testing purposes. But had
done first one with MSConfig, and MSconfig continues to alert at each boot.
That's what I'm now trying to solve.
Thanks for the infos.

Solved "without solution" : restored an image, then modified teh boot.ini
using notepad and not using MSConfig and that works.
Glad to have had a very recent image ( 2 days old), but of course frustrated
that one more problem I do not understand at all !

Phil, undo whatever you did in MSCONFIG to make it stop appearing at
startup. Restart to be sure it's gone.

Then use System Properties> Advanced> Startup and Recovery> Settings. Click
the "Edit button in the System Startup section. A notepad window will
appear displaying the contents of the boot.ini file. Make the changes as
described in the article posted earlier. Be very careful here with your
editing. It must be correct. Save changes, close file and restart.
