MSCONFIG & EXPLORER Problems

After changing CDs in my CDROM drive, windows explorer
continues to display the contents of the previous disk.
I cannot view the files of the new disk unless I reboot
my machine. I thought I might check the startup settings
in MSCONFIG, but after typing that command I now get
a "Cannot find 'msconfig'." error message.

As my PC was working fine yesterday & I haven't made any
changes, I cannot help but think these two problems are
somehow related.

Any help or advice would be most appreciated. Thank you
in advance,

Simon P.

For the first coming on as a problem, I suggest getting TweakUI - one of
the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP!, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its My Computer - Autoplay section, make sure the drive is checked both
in the Drives (by letter) and in [drive] Types

MSConfig.exe should be in
C:\Windows\PCHealth\Helpctr\Binaries

If it is there, but not being found when you type msconfig.exe in start
- run, then it is possible that the path to it stored in registry is
missing or damaged.

Look with regedit.exe, at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\App Paths\MSCONFIG.EXE

And the value of Default in the right pane should be

C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe

(assuming you have Windows installed in C:\Windows of course - adjust if
not)
