msconfg error message

When exiting msconfig this error message is displayed:
"An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service.
You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified
changes."

There are two accounts on the XP Media Center 2005 computer and both are
Administrator accounts.

If you are running Zone Alarm, ZoneAlarm is preventing msconfig from
running. Disconnect from the internet, shut down ZoneAlarm (right-click the
icon in the tray - select "Shutdown ZoneAlarm Security Suite"). Then, select
Run==>msconfig

Use services.msc *NOT* msconfig.exe!

Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK

Why can't I use msconfig to change my services?

[[The reason is because with msconfig and Hardware Profiles, you can disable
services that may be vital to boot your system. With the management console
(services.msc) you cannot. Also, msconfig, while unchecking the box, is
disabling the service.

The "Disable All" button also scares me. It should not even be there as no
reason exists to justify disabling "everything."]]

I am using McAfee Security Suite. The same error message will occur if the
firewall and all monitoring functions are disabled. I couldn't find a "shut
down the entire suite" option with the new version 11.

Msconfig was being used to clean boot the computer by disabling startup
groups and all non-Microsoft services. There is no particular service that is
to be configured. It is just worrisome that this error message is occurring,
and which had not, a month or so ago.

McAfee is causing the problem. If you had ZoneAlarm, it would cause the
problem.

Pull the plug on your modem first before disable AV or firewalls!!!

Try disabling McAfee Security Suite firewall and all monitoring functions
using services.msc, then try disabling whatever using msconfig and see if
you get the same error.

The error appears when disabling all non-Microsoft services. Try disabling
these one at a time to find out which one is denying access/resistiing
change.
