MS04-011 KB 835732 shows Failed

I went to Windows Update and applied all of the recently
release MS Security updates for Windows XP SP1. I was
already currently with previous Security updates. All of
them showed as applying O.K. I then restarted and went
back to Windows Update to show that there were no more
security updates to apply and it found MS04-011 was not
installed, so I reapplied, restarted and found the same
thing.. Windows update shows it is not installed. If I go
to Add/remove programs, it shows that it is installed. I
even removed MS04-011 update (using Add/Remove programs)
and restarted PC, then manually downloaded the update and
applied. All shows O.K., but Windows update indicates it
is not installed. Has anyone seen this before with either
MS04-011 or other updates? I am hoping Microsoft sees
this post and researches to see if this is a bug.
Thanks,
Jeff

I am seeing the same problem. I am running Windows XP Home SP 1 on a Compaq S600
desktop. I applied the updates yesterday and when I rebooted, the windows update servic
keeps popping up a message that KB 835732 is needed

I check the installation history on the windows update site and it shows the update a
being succesfully installed yesterday

I have a question into HP to see if they know of a reason. I'll report back if they do.

I'm having exactly the same problem, but on a generic XP
(Home) machine. No amount of work has changed anything.
Even tried calling MS, but hung up after waiting 40
minutes tonight. Hope some posts a solution.

This is HP's first suggestion, although I interpret it to mean if you can't access th
windows update site. I have gone back and asked more specifically about a
apparently successfully applied update that keeps showing as needed

Here is the HP fix for not being able to acess the update site. I have not tried it ye
myself. I am going to see what the response to my follow up is today-----

-----HP response to access problems to Windows update site--------

This issue may occur due to corrupted registry files. To resolve the issue, connect
to the Internet and then click the "Windows Update" icon. This will start Windows
Update using Internet Explorer. If you are unable to install the updates, follow the
steps below

Step 1: Register file
To register the files, perform the following steps

1. Click Start and then Run.
2. In the Open box, type: regsvr32 msscript.ocx
3. Click OK.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the following files

regsvr32 dispex.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dl

Step 2: Verify file type associatio
Make sure file (open) type .JS is properly associated:

1. Click Start and then Control Panel
2. Click Tools, Folder Options, and then click the File Types tab.
3. Locate the .JS extension and click Advanced
4. Make sure the "Application to perform action" field contains:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\WScript.exe "%1" %

If the above-mentioned entry is not found, copy and paste it in
the Application to perform action field

You should now be able to download the updates from Windows Update. All the best!"
