MS03-026 and MS03-039 & applying after SP4

J

Jeff

If you have SP3 and applied these, you do not, repeat
after me, DO NOT have to reinstall these after applying
SP4.

I asked my companies TAM that exact question the day that
MS03-039 came out, since we are in the process of
upgrading to SP4.

Again, it does not have to be reapplied. This is a direct
contradiction to the false information that some people
have been stating here.

Also, if you get an email from someone supposedly at
Microsoft and it states it contains a hotfix, delete it.
Think...did you ever send MS info asking for a file? Did
you ever speak to the person sending the file?

Weeel, Jeff, I could be wrong, but listen to my reasoning,
which is actually quite sound.

The 0039 fix replaces these files, for example:
23-Aug-2003 18:48 5.2.3790.76 2,128,384 Rpcrt4.dll
23-Aug-2003 18:48 5.2.3790.80 666,624 Rpcss.dll

SP4 includes the COM+ hotfix rollup package 22, which
replaces these files (note that I don't have a list of the
actual files from SP4, but logically since this hotfix is
listed as included in SP4.. it follows...)
20-Sep-2002 10:44 5.0.2195.6040 429328 Rpcrt4.dll
20-Sep-2002 10:44 5.0.2195.6066 186128 Rpcss.dll

Now, it looks to me like SP4 is rolling back the 0039
patch files. What say you oh Jeffo?

Moral of the story:
DON"T ALWAYS BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ FROM MS. CHECK! THEY
ARE ALSO HUMAN!

I believe I rest my case
