MS Word wont Delete Selected Text

I'm working with MS Word 2003 SP2 I select a block of text and when I hit the
Delete Key nothing happens. I already checked to ensure that "Help for
WordPerfect users" and "Navigation Key for WordPerfect Users" are not
enabled. I cant get it to work. I'm not able to delete Selected text in my
email as well.

Is there an option I should be turning off for this besides the two I
mentioned?

Thanks,

Carol,

That option is already enabled in Word. Is there anything other option I
should be looking at.

Thanks,

Does this apply to any text in the document or just a random block of text?
Is it possible that the document is protected?

Don't know about email, but in Word, check to see whether Track Changes is
turned on and whether the Delete key has been reassigned to another function
(Tools | Customize | Keyboard). Also, does the Delete key work in other
applications? Perhaps the problem is with your keyboard?

Also you might check to see whether it is asking you to confirm the delete.
I often select text in Word at work and try to delete it with no result,
until I remember yet again that on that machine I have to hit the "y" for
"yes" to confirm that I do want to delete it. So check whether your setting
is to "confirm delete".

You won't get that prompt on any machine if you clear the check boxes for
the WordPerfect items on the General tab of Tools | Options.

That's very useful to me. Much appreciated.
