MS Word - remove lines

Can you select it at all? If not, perhaps it is a line anchored to (or a
border applied to) the header or footer? Or a drawing line formatted as
Behind Text? If the former, View | Header and Footer to access it. If the
latter, display the Drawing toolbar and click on the Select Objects tool,
which allows you to select drawing objects without touching the text.

Thanks for your very quick response.

(1) No I can not select it at all
(2) A line anchored to header/footer. I checked the header area and found
nothing there.
(3) A drawing line formatted as Behind text. I am using the latest version
of WORD and am still groping my way around the menu system - where do I find
the Drawing toolbar?

By the way, the line appears after the first paragraph - not in the header
or footer areas.

A line anchored to the header or footer can appear anywhere on the page (see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/AnchorToHeader.htm). In Word 2007, the
Drawing Tools tab doesn't appear unless a drawing object is selected;
luckily, however, the Select Objects button appears on the far right end of
the Home tab (in the Editing group).
