MS Word in Office 2000

Can anyone help? When pressing space bar , with curser in text to edit, next
letter is deleted, and new line appears as if pressing Enter key. Have
updated to SP3. Using Vista Ultimate. Thanks to any who can help. Ray

You have toggled Overtype mode. Press the INS key once to turn it off.

Perhaps the space bar has been assigned to the Enter function? I'm not sure
how you could do this, though. When this happens is OVR on the status bar
grey or black? If black, double-click it to turn Overtype mode off.
