MS Windows Defender

G

Geoff

Using Win XP Pro SP2. Recently I downloaded Windows Defender and after
carrying out a scan it came up finding the following:
file:
E:\System Volume
Information\_restore{C0C1AB2A-480C-4313-A9DC-44E90ECDB7D4}\RP45\A0005672.exe->(CABSfx)->data\\4\syncagent.dll

However, asking Windows Defender to remove the "offending" file just bought
about an error report and stating it could not remove the file. :-(
e:\ is my secondary (slave hard drive) and when doing a search for the
"offending" file to remove manually I could not find it! How do I get rid of
the file?

I hope I have asked this question in the correct forum, please advise if I
should ask elsewhere.

System Volume Information (SIV) is the folder used by System Restore. It is
off limits to most accounts and applications. If that's the only place that
this file was found, it most likely is no longer installed on your system.
The "problem" was probably removed by a scan or an uninstall but this
remnant in SIV remains. It is doing no harm there but...

You can use Disk Cleanup> More> System Restore to remove all but the most
recent restore point. You'll lose all prior restore points but that file
will be gone. If you don't do this and use System Restore to return to a
date that includes the offending file, it would return to your working
directories and could be a problem.
