MS Windows 2000 not recognizing my Conexant Modem

A friend installed my Conexant Modem (which I bought off of E-Bay, and it came w/o any installation CD/directions), which worked fine for several months. I had a few "problems" and had to re-load my Juno provider. Now, when I try to connect to the Internet, it says Windows does not recognize modem. Yet, when I check my modem, it is there and says it is working. Also, I can access and get my mail on Juno, but it will not connect me to the Internet. It's the craziest thing. I've gone to control panel and into the Juno installation, re-installed, done everything I can possibly think of. Conexant is not listed in the list of modems, and the Internet site does not have a downloadable file. What is wrong with this crazy thing? HELP!

So what does it say in Control Panel modems, or for that matter
System/Hardware/Device Manager...Modems ?
What happens if you connect to mail, then open IE

Well, David, I have really messed up. I have gone from bad to worse. I found the modem file (CONEXANT R6795-12) on an site at work, downloaded it (it's a zip file), went home, uninstalled the modem, then tried to upload the zip file. Well, now it says I don't have a modem at all! I don't understand zipped files. I have downloaded programs to unzip files, printed directions to try and add the file, nothing is working.

My modem is on COM 3, but the computer is not recognizing it. WHY did I uninstall. At least, I was able to get my mail. Now, nothing works.

I have gone to dial-up network to try and add Juno, but I get a message, dail-up is missing msic.wisp ISP file. It may be erased to corrupt.

Now, I can't get my computer to recoginze the modem at all, found the darn modem file but can't figure out how to load it or use it, so can you help me at all?

I know how to go to control panel, phone, modem, etc., but nothing is working. COM 1/2 do not work. I can't put a modem in these slots. Roxwell is a selection in the Windows modem box, but it does not work. I was trying to find something that was compatible with CONEXANT.

See if anything here helps
PS: pc card modems are really cheap, even from a shop, at least they are in
UK
