Conexant Modem

After upgrade from W98 to XP, XP detects the Conexant
SoftK56 Data,fax,voice PCI modem as Generic SoftK56.
Neither MS nor Conexant seem to think there is any
problem wioth this, but altho the modem shows up in
device manager, installed on COM2, the dialup connection
created using this modem is not working, showing
claiming "device missing".

you need a modem the is compatible with xp, that is the simple truth.
There have been many people who have had to upgrade their hardware because
of xp.
Printers, modem, scanners seem to be affected the most.
Sometime Window 2000 drivers will work.
If you can't get a driver for the hardware, you need to upgrade or roll back
to previous OS.
