MS Software replacements?

A friend managed to drop her laptop, ruining the hard disk. Can anyone
advise on getting replacement software (Win2KP and Office2K)?
Originally, the software was preloaded and no CDs were supplied although
I believe it was properly licensed. Does Microsoft have a policy in
this regard or will she just have to spend precious dollars on
replacements. Linux is not an option for her. Thanks for suggestions!

You friend will have to contact the manufacturer of the computer for
replacement media. Microsoft cannot provide any support for
pre-installed OEM software. The computer manufacturer is obliged to
provide the computer purchaser with a means of restoring the laptop's
software installation to its original ex-factory condition.

I'd start with the company that made the computer, e.g. Dell. With a little
begging and a lot of holding on the phone line, you can probably get
replacements, maybe even for free. Microsoft has no interest in replacing
OEM software.

I assume you have a CD-ROM drive so you can install from the CDs.

I also assume someone will help you replace the hard drive and format it for
the laptop.

I am unable to advise you whether your OEM software will install on a
different hard drive.
