Is there a way to enter a new CD key without reinstalling?

I

Ian Roberts

A friend of mine had a problem with her laptop which required a repair
installation but at the time I was there she couldnt find her original
disks.

To help her out I used my own Win2K disc to do the repair install but this
required me entering my own CD key.

I advised her that she really ought to have her own discs and she has
subsequently bought an new OEM full version of Win2K Pro.

Now as her current system was setup with my disc and CD key, is it possible
to update the system with her new CD key without having to do a re-install
and all the updates all over again!

Thanks for any info

The CD key is irrelevant except for installation-setup.
The resulting ProductID is generated from the setup. If
this is the number that is of concern, then Windows 2000
needs to be re-installed. And to be technically legal,
the laptop's version of Windows 2000 should be a retail
one unless it was a replacement cdrom from the laptop's
OEM.
