MS sidewinder force feedback pro joystick and Winxp

Hi
I have a MS sidewinder force feedback pro joystick
(gameport )version
unfortunately winxp will not let me load the V 3.02
software to program the
buttons . Is there a work around so that i can progam the
buttons.
I also have a USB msffb wheel which is using version 4 of
the controller
software,this newer version of MS software will not
recognise the joystick.
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Microsoft no longer supports gameport devices. All you have are the
built-in drivers in XP.

The file format in which the drivers were written for game port controllers
is not supported on Windows XP, however, you can install the controller by
going into Control Panel/Game Controllers and selecting Add, then browsing
to the proper listing. XP will provide the correct basic drivers, but you
need to rely on in-game options for setting the buttons to different items
than default.
