i have a MS sidewinder Force feedback wheel and pedals,
which i bought about 9 months ago for £150 it's teh
gameport version, now i come to play new games which
require DX9 (colin mcrae rally 3, TOCA race driver, etc,
and more to come soon) i cannot use my trusty ever loving
wheel. the force feedback is no longer there at all, i
was told that it's because MS no longer support force
feedback wheels using the gameport interface in directx9,
so does this mean that i'm going to have to go and buy
another new wheel and pedals (NOT GOING TO HAPPEN) please
can anyone help me with this problem and point me towards
a resolve, either by way of some sort of patch/fix or
maybe a converter to USB, thanks in advance

Connect the wheel to the PC, go to the Control Panel and click on Game
Controllers. Use the AutoDetect feature and XP will install its built in
drivers.

ok done that but still no force feedback in DirectX 9
games, which is basically all of them now because directx
9 is installed, if i uninstall directx 9 and go back to
directx 8 then it's all ok, but some of the games are
directx 9 only, so i have to have directx 9 installed and
therefore no force feedback, please further help would be
great, i appreciate your help and suggestions, i really do

What kind of sound card do you have? The cheaper sound cards typically have
many problems associated with forces and just joystick data in general. They
just can't transfer data fast enough. This is the reason why the industry
has abondoned the gameport and now release devices with the much more
reliable USB. Let me know more specifics about your system (sound card, RAM,
processor speed, etc) and I will probably have a better idea why you are not
getting forces. Your setup should work, as long as a poor sound card isn't
the issue.
