Hi,
I am looking to remove the time limitation (of 60 secs) on the MS
recorder. (start-programs-accessories-entertainment-recorder)
Please can anyone advise me on how to remove it please?
That is, I'm not looking for a 1 minute work-around - rather
a genuine fix. (removal of the time limit)
I contacted MS - who politely told me to clear off - as all my
genuinely purchased software, 98, XP, Office, + etc. (retail boxed)
just does not count - because my operating system, bought
with the computer, reads OEM. (how to treat a customer.)
If anyone can help - Many thanks.

You might want to consider using Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Free and much more full featured than the native Sound recorder.
While you can extend Sound Recorder's time period, I'm not sure
it's possible to set it to an unlimited value.
As with other features/functionality in Windows - sometimes what
is provided is a "Basic" feature set, to do more you need a 3rd-party
application.

Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder

Disable microphone, and record silence for 60 sec.
Click record again, and record silence for 120 sec.
Click record again, and record silence for 180 sec...etc.

File > save as > Record3Min.wav

I have several .wav files from 3 min to 18 min.
I usually open the 18 min file to record notes, because it can be edited
to delete sounds before and after each topic, thereby letting me
create a separate file for each note. (use Edit that appears on the Sound
Recorder menu)

After editing Record18Min.wav, save as Whatever.wav
(use "Delete before current position" and "Delete after current position")

Open Record18Min.wav again and edit the next note.

This requies a little work to breakout each note, but it works.

Thank you Jerry; it is a good work-around, (thank you)
but I would like to remove the limitation once and for all.

Sorry about the posting - I received an email saying "because my original
post was in the wrong group (net) I should post in windows," which I did. The
post was not ment to be duplicated, sorry.
