MS-Outlook sending messages when no messages exists to be sent!

we have our MS-outlook 2003 configured to POP3 email

i keep getting this messgae in the task bar, saying sending message 1 of 2 &
message 2 of 2. but there r no messages in the outbox or anywhere to be sent.

we have checked for spyware n all other bugs n the system is fully updated
but we keep getting this message.

how do we resolve this
