Hi,

I have problem that the MS Outlook 2007 doesn't remember the
password even though I check the checkbox. I did try to follow the
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290684 but
it didn't work.

My system is Windows XP with MS Office Pro 2007.

This is very annoying. I am wonder if anyone have the same problem.

I plan to call MS to get some help but the support depart only open
till 5pm. If you have done some thing diferent from what MS solution
is please let me know.

I think my last resoure is to totally reinstall they OS.

I'm having the exact same problem on a client machine too. It's
windows XP install with Office 2007 Enterprise and for some reason,
his system will not save the e-mail password. I've scoured the
internet and tried all of the registry fixes posed on MS to no avail.

I would love to get an update on this problem from anayone that has
run into this same situation. Is our only resort to completely
uninstall and then re-install everything?

Looking for answers...

The first thing to try is a new mail profile.

The first thing to try is a new mail profile.

Brian,

I appreciate your interest in this discussion and have tried a new
mail profile, along with all of hte fixes currently posted on the MS
support section. I'm hoping the gentleman above has contacted
Microsft and has given him some different advice than what is
currently posted on the web.

Hi,

I haven't have chance to call MS yet. I never have to contact them
but it seems that we have no luck searching for the fix on the
Internet. It's so lame that MS only give us a few month of free
support.

Anyway I even created new account and setup the outlook. The
password wasn't remembered either. If I get this fixed I will
definitely let you know. I even consider reinstalling Windows and
start over.

I think it might be the fact that I installed trial version of
Office 2003 when it came with the computer then chose upgrade option
when I installed Office 2007

But did you try a new mail profile?

Brian,

I have tried creatiing a new mail profile under the control panel
(went to mail and hit the new button, then entered all the server
info. etc.). It still does not save the password. That was one of
the first fixes that microsoft suggested on their site. Still no go.

Trying.

But did you click Show Profiles first, and then click Add? If you didn't do
that, you didn't create a new mail profile. What you describe does not
correspond with creating a new mail profile.

Hi I was having the same problem - the following article helped to clear it:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/Q290684

Hope it helps - but Outlook 2007 is still veeeeeeeeery slow when downloading
mails.

Brian and Pav,

Yes I have tried that article from Microsft at least 3 times and it
did not resolve my password problem. Brian, Yes - I did try to add a
new profile under (show profiles) selection and all it did was manage
to mess up my business conact manager database. In addition to the
new profile, I deleted the old "Outlook" profile and made a new one
but still have the same problem. Is that what you meant by creating a
new profile?

Still scouring the net for ideas.

Hi,

I came across another possible solution for those who use Windows XP
+ Office 2007.

Go to the folder that contain Outlook.exe

Right click and choose properties

Click Compatibility tab and select Windows XP (service pack 2) under
Compatibility Mode.

Hope this works. I haven't try it yet since it's not my computer
that has the problem.

I didn't see the compatibility with XP in Office 2007.

Can any MVP help solving this issue? I use Office 2007 on Windows XP
my account is comcast.

It asks for password everytime I click send/recieve button.

Thanks,
Deen

With XP, this is usually a Protected Storage Subsystem issue and the
solutions are described in the KB article that Pav cited.

Brian and all...this seems to be a problem everywhere. People who have
Vista, XP or whatever and Outlook 2007. I continue to have this problem and
have tried every fix I can find on the web but still continue to have to
enter my passwords for all email accounts. We've uninstalled, repaired and
reinstalled Office Pro 2007 several times. For some reason the passwords
won't stay in the password list no matter what you do...either going through
the mail tab in control panel, deleting the profile and starting a new one,
doing the fix that MS talks about regarding the Protected Storage System reg
edit...everything and nothing seems to work. It is very lame and very common
all over the net where people with Outlook 2007 continue to have this problem
where it doesn't remember that passwords no matter what you click, unclick or
reclick...very frustrating.
