Last night I installed XP Service Pack 2. Tonight when I
try to open MS Excel, the following occurs:
Windows Installer...Preparing to Install
Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office XP
Professional with Frontpage
It then tells me it can't access the original MS Office
files. This is because the files were installed through
my former employer's network. My employer sold me my
computer when I took a new job, but I didn't walk away
with MS Office software discs (or an ongoing connection
to their network).
But here's my question -- what happened in the SP2
install that caused my software to need access to the
original source files? What can I do to fix this?
A final step of the SP2 install directed me to search for
updates for MSOffice software. The process tried to begin
some updates, but I cancelled because it said it was
going to want access to the original files. I didn't
think it changed anything, but now it seems it must have.
These updates had something to do with GDI/jpeg something-
or-other.
Any help?
