MS Office Compatibility Pack

I am using Word 2002, SP3 on a system with Windows XP. I have received Word
files with a file type of .docx that I would like to be able to read. I
found there is a MS Office Compatibility Pack for Word
(FileFormatConverters.exe) version 3 dated 11/19/2007 available. Will this
fix my problem? Will my Word2002 still work as before? I have many Word
files I need to keep safe. If anyone out there has applied this update to
Word 2002, I would appreciate it if you would let me know how it worked out.
It is really important that I can keep my present Word .doc files in tact.
Thanks for your help. Charles Ranheim

The Compatibility Pack is intended to allow users of Office 2000, 2002, and
2003 to open files created in Office 2007. It will have no effect on Word
2002 except to allow you to open .docx files; as a bonus, you will get the
new C-fonts from Office 2007 installed in Windows. Download the Microsoft
Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats

Yup, I've installed the Compatibility Pack on several machines and never
had a problem. The guidelines say you first have to install all the
latest Office Updates, however, and with Office 2000 (2002?) it can
prove difficult to do this if you can't find the original CD.

Suzanne,
I downloaded and installed from the link you suggested. It works fine. I
was able to open a file type .docx, which I could not do before. The rest of
my Word program seem to be working OK. Thanks again for those who
responded. I appreciate it very much. Charles Ranheim

I have installed the Compatibility Pack and SP1 plus all Office 2000 updates.
When I load a Word 2007 file everything is OK except heading fonts are Times
New Roman (correct size) instead of Arial. The actual styles for headings
have correct Arial font. I have noticed other blogs mentioning similar issue
but no resolution. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
