MS Office 97 SR2
I apologies if I have come to the wrong thread.

I tried to change the background sound in my WebPages Welsh Songs and up
came this window:-

"The visual basic environment could not be initialized. Please run setup to
install it correctly"

I reinstalled Office and when it reached 69% this window came up

"Setup could not read from file D\OFFICE\LIBRARY\HTMLXLA"

I clicked IGNORE and it continued. When completed this window came up

"Htmlmarq.ocx was unable to register itself in the system registry"

I installed XP SP2 before all this.Could this have caused the problem.

I managed to change the Background sound by using Notepad.

Any help appreciated.

You should post this in the appropriate Office newsgroup. This one is

That said have you upgraded XP to SP2? I believe there is an issue if
Office 97 is not installed prior to SP2?

SP2 must be installed over(after) Office97 *if* u want the html module.
However, u seems to have a read error on the Office CD - bad CD or CD unit?
