MS Net 2 & 3 Service Packs won't install

I did an XP Repair Install and the last pieces to update are
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0/3.0 Service Packs 1. The problem is I keep
getting a message at the end that installation was unsuccessful. Any
ideas? thanks.

A common problem that indicates that the installed versions are damaged in
some way. The solution, to uninstall folowed by a reinstall. There are
many references (Google) on the uninstall/reinstall procedure which must be
carefully folowed.

I came across this problem recently. Is is because the DLL used for updates
does not get updated when you do an XP repair.

WUPS2.dll is required to be reregistered after a'repair' to allow updating
but the problem being addressed was specific to updating Net Framework.
Registering Wups2.dll will not help if all other updates are being installed
without problems.
